The European Code of Ethics for franchising,
as it is promoted by the national franchise associations members of the EFF,
has contributed to a constant reflection on, an auto-critique of and the evolution
of the franchise sector in Europe since its significant take-off in the 1970-80s.
This certainly explains to a large extent the little franchise-specific legislation in Europe as opposed to Franchise legislation in other parts of the world (USA, Australia, etc.)
The EFF stands by its commitment for a voluntary and self-regulatory approach to franchising.
This position allows for the EFF and its members to stand to represent "authentic and ethical franchising".
As mentioned above, the EFF's Code of
Ethics for franchising has been recognised as a reference both
by the European Commission, the European Court of Justice, and through multiple
franchise jurisprudence.
